The good divorce is a growing trend

Divorce in New Jersey is often one of the most stressful experiences of a person's life, particularly if two divorcing individuals end up going to war over matters such as asset division. People who are getting a divorce may also battle over child custody. However, the current trend is to complete what is known as a good divorce, which is not characterized by ongoing conflict.

When people imagine a divorce courtroom, they often view it as being adversarial. In addition to being stressful, the divorce litigation process can be public and very costly, causing two people to drain their retirement accounts, such as 401(k)s, to get through the process. More people are therefore opting to avoid litigation and instead strive to find common ground with their soon-to-be exes.

For instance, nesting is becoming increasingly common. This is where the kids remain in the family house and the parents are the ones who switch, typically one week at a time. This keeps the kids from having to move; as a result, they can maintain their current friendships and extracurricular activities, and they do not have to change schools.

Divorce mediation and negotiation can be helpful for individuals who prefer to keep the details of their divorce confidential and private and make the process as painless as possible. This is beneficial not only for the two adults who can come to mutually satisfactory agreements, but also for their kids. Proper legal guidance may help people to pursue their best interests during a divorce in New Jersey while still striving for a fair settlement with the other party.
