Stevie Wonder ordered to pay exorbitant amount in child support

During the process of divorce in New Jersey, child support is often a major sticking point for parents. One parent may be concerned about not receiving an appropriate amount in child support for the child, while the other parent may be worried about being ordered to pay an unreasonable amount. One high-profile individual in another state, singer Stevie Wonder, was recently ordered to pay a large amount in child support following his divorce.

Based on divorce papers, Wonder's divorce from his second wife, Kai Millard Morris, was recently finalized. The pair, who got married back in 2001, have two sons. The boys are 10 and 14 years old.

Following their split-up, the singer and his ex-wife will share custody of their kids. However, Wonder, who is the winner of a Grammy Award, will have to pay child support totaling $25,000 per month. Altogether, Wonder has nine kids with five women; the children range in age from 40 years to 10 months. His youngest was born in late 2014 to a woman named Tomeeka Robyn Bracy, whom he is still dating.

In New Jersey, child support awards are computed by courts using a math formula created by the state's child support guidelines. The formula is relatively straightforward, but many complex issues might arise that will influence a person's child support award or obligation. These issues include calculating income in situations where spouses are self-employed as well as the treatment of bonus pay or seasonal income. Proper legal guidance may help people to fight for their best interests when dealing with child support matters in the state.
