Many people in New Jersey have likely become aware of the multiple scandals and accusations against Harvey Weinstein in recent months. Media sources have been closely following his wife's reaction and plans after she announced her intention to separate from the movie producer. Considering their wealth, property ownership and business, it is expected their property division may be difficult.
After multiple assault accusations were made against Harvey Weinstein by many women, Georgina Chapman announced that she had plans to divorce. Although Chapman has been successful with her own clothing design company, Marchesa, Weinstein's wealth is significantly more. It is estimated that Weinstein may be worth as much as $300 million and Chapman only $20 million.
As suspected, the couple has a prenuptial agreement that has recently been made public. Because the couple's 10th wedding anniversary recently occurred, the prenuptial agreement affords her more spousal support than it would have prior to that anniversary. Chapman may receive as much as $12 million with the divorce based on the terms of the agreement. In addition to negotiating about their wealth, the couple shares two small children and will likely discuss terms regarding child support and custody.
Although neither Weinstein nor Chapman has officially filed for divorce, it is suspected that the terms of their divorce and property division are being discussed. It is not uncommon for high profile couples to negotiate terms of a divorce prior to filing to help promote privacy. In addition to difficult decisions, divorces are often painful as this one likely is. Many in New Jersey find the advocacy of an attorney comforting and helpful as they proceed through the process.
